FMC Transforming Health
This major $187m health project at the Flinders Medical Centre is one of the most demanding ever delivered in South Australia. The Client required full delivery (initial brief definition through to completed facility handover) within just 26 months to coincide with closure of another hospital. The project encompassed multiple post-disaster multi-level health buildings accommodating Palliative Care, Rehabilitation Services inpatients and outpatient service accommodation as well as extensive therapy facilities including hydrotherapy pool and robotic-assisted therapy. Also delivered were a state of the art Older Persons Mental Health facility, 1,850 space decked carpark and extensive engineering and support service infrastructure upgrades. The project required very quick assessment of a complex and challenging sloping site with cultural sensitivities and development of proposed facility solutions in close consultation with multiple user groups and large stakeholder groups that effectively connected into the existing overall hospital. The scope of the project was increased twice during the programme with inclusion of additional level to Rehab Building and two additional levels to carpark. The design and construction approach was founded on proven evidence-based principles and building envelope design that enabled commencement of construction before finalization of design. The final project was delivered ahead of contract completion requirements and within budget.
