Pembroke College Boarding House
This project involved the provision of a new boarding house building which linked two existing boarding-house facilities in an austere-period multi-storey 1960s building and a heritage bluestone cottage to create a unified outcome.
The new building provides bedrooms, activity and living spaces in a building that emphasises domestic scale and character as the basis for supporting students’ senses of well-being and community. The building carefully delineates and reinforces different precincts within the school campus in accordance with Master Planning undertaken by Cheesman Architects and successfully meets the challenge of linking two existing buildings of significantly different architectural style.
